Scott Turik from Eighty Twenty Power Corp in Crystal Lake will give a presentation on Electric Transportation and Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging technology Wednesday, May 11 from 2:30-3:30 p.m., in the MCC Conference Center, 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake.

Turik works in conjunction with Carbon Day Automotive and Coulomb Technologies, operators of the most extensive charging network in the U.S. today. 

Carbon Day is a local distributor for Coulomb Technologies' ChargePoint EV Supply Equipment (EVSE), and is the leading installer of charging stations in Chicago and the Midwest with over 200 public and private locations currently operating in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, and Iowa.  

Session topics will include an overview of different types of electric and hybrid vehicles and factors influencing how long it will take to recharge your EV's batteries.  In addition to a live demonstration of the ChargePoint national network and actual charging station demo, Turik will cover several examples of municipal electric charging initiatives currently underway around the country and around Illinois, including the innovative Carbon Day Solar Plug2 energy platform, which allows EV owners to recharge their cars using clean solar energy.

For cities and institutions entering the electric transportation marketplace, several considerations are proving to be critical to their success.  One such key consideration -- the relationship of EV charging to smart-grid development efforts by utility companies and the possible future "power grid strain" -- will also be discussed.
