Join ISEA to learn about how smart communities are getting ready for the growth of the solar industry!
In fact, they are SolSmart! Through the U.S. Department of Energy-funded SolSmart program, and a partnership with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, Illinois communities are preparing their codes and processes to expedite safe, affordable solar development.
SolSmart provides a pathway for municipalities and counties to follow, and a tiered recognition system to acknowledge their efforts. These steps include streamlined permitting; inspector training; zoning code review and clear communication to solar contractors and property owners about these processes. Learn how the Village of Schaumburg received a SolSmart Silver designation - information about their solar codes and permit review processes are here. In the six months since they’ve earned SolSmart Silver, Schaumburg has approved 10 residential rooftop PV permits and 2 commercial permits for a total of 620.92 kw.
The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and SolSmart led the largest cohort of local governments to earn SolSmart in 2017 and they are about to lead another group this fall. Join us for this webinar with Zach Greene of SolSmart and Edith Makra of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus to learn about SolSmart and leading SolSmart communities in northeastern Illinois.
