Solar and Green Efforts:

  • Photovoltaic (PV) System

  • Electric Vehicle

System Details:
This is 4.56kw system with 16 SolarWorld 285W panels. The system was size to meet about 100% of my yearly energy use.

Personal Story:

I first got interested in solar out of environmental concerns. I used to live in Portland Oregon and saw how solar was becoming more and more common and realized that this technology has advanced to the point where as a homeowner, it can make sense. When I moved to Highland Park, I saw trains full of coal on the way to the power plant and thought that I need to be part of the solution, rather than just being upset by the problem. I had my panels installed on my roof in April of 2016. Since then I have been trying to share my story with others in Illinois. We live in an area that solar works well and can save money while providing clean renewable energy and job growth.

What tips do you have for someone considering or moving forward with a solar installation?

Number 1 is to get efficient. That is the biggest impact per dollar spent. Number 2 is to have more than one installer come for an assessment. There may not be one right way to go for every roof. Number 3 is to do your homework and be sure to understand the different incentive programs there are.
