In 1985, we converted a porch on our 1870 farmhouse to passive solar heat. At the same time, we integrated a homemade solar heated water system to the existing propane tank. The solar system is only used for warm weather months. In winter, a wood stove system heats our water. In 2017, we added a 3.5 kW solar array that meets all of our electrical needs.
In the words of Gandhi "Be the change you want to see in the world." Everything we have done solar has exceeded our efficiency expectations and for less cost.
What tips do you have for someone considering or moving forward with a solar installation?
Research whatever your plans are and look at alternative bids and systems. The simplest is often the best. Be sure how your power company will coordinate with you.
