The Illinois Power Agency is an independent State Agency created in 2007 to develop annual electricity procurement plans and renewable resources procurement plans and to conduct procurement events to ensure adequate, reliable, affordable, efficient, and environmentally sustainable electric service for the default supply customers of Illinois electric utilities. The Agency also conducts procurements and administers programs that promote the development of renewable energy resources in accordance with the State Renewable Portfolio Standard. Associate Legal Counsel - Consumer Protection

The Illinois Power Agency (“Agency”) is hiring an Associate Legal Counsel – Consumer Protection to join the Consumer Protection team within the Agency’s Legal Bureau. The Associate Legal Counsel – Consumer Protection will work on the Agency’s robust and expanding consumer protection initiatives for the Agency’s solar incentive programs, Illinois Shines and Illinois Solar for All.

The position combines big-picture public policy discussions with the development of implementation strategies and processes in the administration of renewable incentive programs. The Associate Legal Counsel will work closely with the Deputy Legal Counsel for Consumer Protection, other Consumer Protection team members, other Agency staff, and the Agency’s third-party Program Administrators on a wide range of consumer protection topics.

Responsibilities under this position will primarily focus on work related to consumer protection within State-administered incentive programs but may expand to include other legal and consumer protection assignments as required by the Agency.

Renewables Analyst II

The Illinois Power Agency (IPA) is an independent state agency responsible for two foundational efforts – the administration of procurements and programs to support the advancement of the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and the planning and procurement of electric supply for those utility customers who have chosen not to select an alternative electric supplier.

The Agency is seeking an experienced renewables analyst to support the Agency’s work managing and analyzing renewable energy markets and supporting the renewable energy procurement activities. As a member of the IPA’s Planning and Procurement team and reporting to the Head of Renewable Energy Procurement, the Renewables Analyst II will focus on an array of clean energy/renewable energy market and procurement initiatives. The candidate should be comfortable working with internal and external stakeholders to gain an in-depth understanding of market mechanics and activities, stakeholder positions, and of the IPA’s processes and objectives. The candidate will be an active member of a dynamic and highly talented team that is focused on making a significant impact on the effectiveness of the IPA’s operations that lead to the development of new renewable energy resources and the provision of default service rate options. The candidate will be expected to work both independently on certain tasks as well as collaboratively with the internal team and external consultants.

As the Director of Business Development at Trajectory Energy Partners, you will be responsible for developing and executing transaction strategies, overseeing project due diligence, ensuring program compliance, identifying and developing new market opportunities, and managing relationships with key stakeholders. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for selling solar projects, including identifying potential buyers and market opportunities.
  • Lead the transaction process from initial buyer engagement to final sale, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.
  • Oversee project due diligence, review financial models, and evaluate commercial terms to ensure projects meet internal criteria and market standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, and project development, to facilitate the sale process.
  • Negotiate and structure contracts, agreements, and other transaction documents with buyers and stakeholders.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify new opportunities and emerging markets for solar projects.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory environments to inform business development strategies.
  • Develop market entry strategies and assess the feasibility of expanding into new geographic regions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key external partners, such as lenders, investors, and government agencies.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote our brand and projects.
  • Provide guidance and support to other team members to ensure successful project transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Renewable Energy, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully closing large-scale project transactions and achieving sales targets.
  • Strong understanding of the solar energy market, including regulatory and policy frameworks.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Location and Travel:

This position is based in the Chicago or Washington DC area. We offer flexibility, allowing you to work from home multiple days a week, with typically 2-3 days in the office. Travel to industry conferences, collaboration with industry partners, and travel across Illinois and other markets on project-specific work expected.
