The media and public are invited to attend 7 "solarbrations"/ribbon cuttings at schools in Vienna, Herrin, and Johnston City on Tuesday, April 18th, starting at 9 AM. The four-module 1.14 kW solar awnings installed at each of the featured schools were funded by grants awarded by the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, The Solar Star Foundation, and part of a larger USDA Rural Business Development Grant. The schedule/location of each school solarbration is listed below:

9 AM: Vienna High School, 601 North 1st St, Vienna

10 AM: Lincoln Elementary School, 20163 Corinth Rd, Pittsburgh

10:30 AM: Washington Middle School, 100 East 12th St, Johnston City

11 AM: Johnston City High School, 1500 Jefferson Ave, Johnston City

LUNCH BREAK (on own)

1 PM: Herrin High School, 700 North 10th St, Herrin

1:30 PM: Herrin Middle School, 700 South 14th St, Herrin

2 PM: Herrin Elementary School, 5200 Herrin Rd, Herrin

The awnings serve to educate students about solar through training provided to their teachers, monitoring of each system that students can view, and opportunities to gain an understanding as to how the awnings also help to curb heat gain on the sout-facing windows that they shade and shelter.
