Find host sites at our brand new website,

Registration for the 2017 Solar Tour is now closed! Thank you for your interest and try again next year!

Are you a proud owner of solar on your home or business? Become a part of our community of energy innovators by participating in the Solar Tour, coming up on October 7th!

If you are the owner of a solar installation, you're on the forefront of the energy revolution. Now it's time to get your neighbors on board! Show your community how solar works - how it affects your fossil fuel usage AND your electricity bill - by being a part of of the Illinois Solar Energy Association's Solar Tour!

The Tour is a free public open house: an opportunity to show off your solar array to your neighbors and get your community involved and interested in investing in renewable energy. It's also a national event: ISEA's Solar Tour is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour event, "the largest grassroots solar event in history." More than 160,000 participants will visit some 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the US on tour day. Being part of this national event is a great way to show your support for renewable energy, and encourage others to follow in your footsteps.

Illinois prides itself on traditionally hosting one of the largest solar tours in the country! Your participation in the event will make this year even more of a success.

The 2017 Illinois Solar Tour will take place on Saturday, October 7th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.  Home and business owners with renewable energy installations are invited to open their homes to the public and share their passion, knowledge and experience of owning, maintaining and living with renewable energy.

We encourage you to invite your family and friends to help with tour attendee education and management. Depending on location and weather conditions, host sites can expect a handful of visitors or as many as 100! You do NOT need to be an ISEA member to be a host site. All are welcome to spread the word about clean energy!

Host Site Recommendations:

  • Post tour sign in a visible location on the street.
  • Set up a registration table.  A registration form will be emailed to you. Please print copies for your guests to fill out.  Ask all guests to sign-in.
  • Make yourself available from 10:00am to 3:00pm to show attendees your renewable energy installation. Some host sites may have an outside system, while others are inside the home to show mechanicals or other green features.  Inside or outside, it is completely at your discretion.
  • Be knowledgeable about your installation as attendees will ask questions. Feel free to display information, charts, and/or documentation that will help explain features of your installation.
  • Make it personal.  Share your story about why you chose to have a renewable energy system.
  • We highly recommend that each host site reach out to their local newspaper, village hall or radio station to market your participation in the Solar Tour.  ISEA will provide and solar tour press release template for your use.
Post-Event: Tour hosts are asked to provide tour attendee data back to ISEA after the tour is over. We appreciate your commitment to the renewable energy community and generosity necessary to be a Solar Tour Host Site.
