Inspecting Solar & Wind Electric Systems

Lead by MREA experts, this training will include a review of NEC Articles 690, 694 and 705 and will cover equipment listing and labeling requirements, code compliant calculations and system labeling requirements.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • identify the components and configurations of the fours basic PV system types: Utility Interconnected, Utility Interconnected with Battery Back-up, Stand Alone and Direct PV 
  • explain NEC Article 690 and 705 and how they relate to solar electric systems
  • demonstrate proper labeling requirements for renewable energy systems as they relate to NEC Articles 690, 694, and 705
  • inspect a variety of renewable electric systems
  • explain line and load side connections and requirements for solar electric systems
  • perform specific circuit calculations for conductor and overcurrent sizing based on module manufacturer spec sheets
  • explain outdoor conductor and enclosure ratings
  • explain solar electric system grounding requirements and concerns
  • identify common code violations.

Attendees will then apply their knowledge while touring Heartland's solar training shed and discussing Heartland's newly erected 1.65 MW turbine.
